To think that someone so SENSELESS would open fire on a school campus – it’s indescribable, considering that this is NOT the first time an individual has walked into a place and took the lives of others. It is a senseless crime, and it’s probably a good thing that the gunman is dead, although you never know who may want to follow in his footsteps. A school in mourning, over 32 students that had their life ending for no apparent reason. It’s not fair, but it is difficult to prevent these kinds of things from happening. School is supposed to be a safe place to learn, not a place where people walk in fear because no one knows when the next person is going to bring out a gun and try to shoot down an entire crowd. Every school has its security flaws, but by no means can a school be entirely safe. My heart goes out to Virginia Tech, especially to the victims’ families, and I am glad that many people went home to see their families; however, the people who live on campus who are not from the area suffer just as badly because they have nowhere else to go and only have those in university housing for comfort. There is no doubt that this day in history will be remembered, and I hope that schools around the country will take the initiative to make their campuses safer.
